No kidding, the dating game is different today than it was yesterday. It’s apparently par for the course when a date “ghosts” on you, or “benches” you, or drip-feeds you with breadcrumbs. But what do all these slang terms mean? Let’s drill down on some of the language used in today’s dating game:
Now you see them; now you don’t. One day s/he is texting you every hour and you’re in constant communication. The next day: crickets. What happened?
Honestly, it really doesn’t matter. Maybe s/he went back to her ex, moved to Alaska, lost her job. Who knows? Who cares?
The point is, ghosting happens when a potential romantic partner’s situation has suddenly changed – whether that’s emotionally, financially or physically. It’s not you, it’s them. Really. Welcome to Dating 101. Move on.
Picture this: You’ve donned your jammies, you’re ready to go to bed, and then your phone chirps with a text. Who’s texting you at this inappropriately late hour? It’s Desperado, attempting to win you over with pithy texts such as, “U up?”
This person is benching you – keeping you on the side as a backup plan lest his Numero Uno plan falls through. Walk away without a backward glance.
Like ghosting and benching, breadcrumbing happens when a potential romantic interest isn’t really that “into you.” However, this person has decided you are worth toying with. So they will keep you around to play with and have some fun. To accomplish this, they will send you random, meaningless texts that leave you wondering, “How do I respond?”
The best response? None. You deserve better than ghosting, benching and breadcrumbing. You deserve the best date – and relationship – ever. Now that you know the language, use DateCart and step your date game up.
